Lemon itself is very nutritious, containing nutrients such as vitamin C, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, β-carotene and dietary fibre. Preliminary researches have shown that vitamin C can prevent some types of cancer and cardiovascular disease, improves immunity and maintains the elasticity of the skin. Furthermore, the white-colored membrane located just under the skin of the lemon is a good source of “bioflavonoids”, these phytochemicals have potent antioxidative effect, help maintain the elasticity of blood vessels, reducing the risk of hypertension and other associated cardiovascular diseases. Besides, bioflavonoids can stimulate the liver function, and are essential during detoxification processes.
